Curation. Noun. To select, organise and look after a collection of something.

A way I've been told to remember it:

Think of a DJ. A DJ's job isn't to create music, it's to curate music. They take samples from tracks that already exist, and curate it all into a mix that best suits the needs of the function. E.g.: Slap a bit of Nelly, Usher and Ashanti onto the deck, add some scratches, layer some additional instruments of your choosing and boom, you've got your very own custom 00s ("Naughties") mix, curated by the DJ himself - not by Nelly, or Usher, or Ashanti. It's your own mix, using sources that have already been made readily available to you.

The act of curation is just that, using data and sources that are readily available, shaping them and organising them into something different - an exhibition, or an infographic.
