Module 2 - Intersections

Niall
Human-Centred Design

For my second module, I want to focus on the mental health issues (specifically anxiety and depression) of male university students. This is a topic that is dear to me, as it is something I've been tackling recently and trying to find help with over the past couple of years.

Tackling my mental health at University has been very hard for me, not so much because of the facilities available, but because I refused to accept that I had depression, it festered slowly in my brain until I decided that I can't hide it anymore and it was truly a problem for me.

I'm not ignorant to the services available though. The university has some fantastic resources available for those struggling with their mental health, whilst the Samaritans are always available to talk to over the phone. As well as these, there is an event in Falmouth named 'Man Down'. Held at the local barbershop, it is a group event for men of all ages, where they can freely discuss issues regarding their mental health, free of judgement and prejudice. The next event is tonight, coincidentally, so I'll be attending and then updating my blog accordingly.
